Bathinda, October 27, 2025 — Bollywood actor-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut appeared before the court in Bathinda today in a defamation case filed by elderly farmer-activist Mohinder Kaur. During the proceedings, Kangana tendered an apology to Kaur’s family, asking for their forgiveness for remarks she had made earlier that Kaur alleges defamed her.
According to the complainant’s lawyer, Ms Kaur’s husband and other family members were present in court. Kangana admitted that the tweet in question — which had identified Kaur as the “Shaheen Bagh dadi” and claimed that women protesters were being paid Rs 100 — was made without intent to hurt anyone and said she regretted the post even though it was originally a retweet.
The case dates back to December 2020 during the farmers’ protests, when Kangana posted a retweet referring to Kaur (resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village, Bathinda district) as the same woman who featured in Time Magazine and was “available for Rs 100”. Kaur says the remark damaged her reputation as a farmer and activist.
During today’s hearing, the court heard that Kangana’s legal team had sought exemption from personal appearance, but the defendant’s counsels insisted that for criminal defamation under Sections 499/500 of the Indian Penal Code, personal appearance is required unless exempted by valid reason. The matter was adjourned with the next hearing set for November 24.
Kaur’s family, through her husband, indicated that they will deliberate on the apology internally and also consult farmers’ unions before deciding on any settlement or continuation. “We will act according to what the family and the union collectively decide,” he told the court.

ਬਠਿੰਡਾ 27 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2025: ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਬਹਾਦਰਗੜ੍ਹ ਜੰਡੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਔਰਤ ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਾੜੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਦਾਕਾਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਦੇ ਮੰਡੀ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਕੰਗਨਾ ਰਨੌਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਟਵੀਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।ਇਹ ਟਵੀਟ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੀ ਜਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਗਣਾ ਰਨੌਤ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਕੇਸ ਦਾਇਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਜਿਸ ਸਬੰਧ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਜ ਕੰਗਣਾ ਰਨੌਤ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਨਯੋਗ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਕੰਗਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਜੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ। ਭਾਰੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਗਨਾ ਰਨੌਤ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੀ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ।
ਕੰਗਣਾ ਰਨੌਤ ਨੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਜੋ ਟਵੀਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਉਹ ਮਹਿਜ ਇੱਕ ਗਲਤ ਫਹਿਮੀ ਸੀ। ਕੰਗਣਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਦਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ। ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸਦੇ ਲਈ ਕੰਗਣਾ ਨੇ ਖੇਦ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕੰਗਨਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਬੇਬੇ ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
