Mansa, March 3 – Former Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said the people of Punjab were waiting for the Vidhan Sabha elections to teach Captain Amarinder Singh a befitting lesson for duping them by swearing lies on the holy Gutka Sahib to form the government four years ago.
In a scalding criticism of Capt Amarinder, Mrs Badal also slammed him over appointing Prashant Kishore once again as his principal advisor. She said Kishore was the same man who had ‘trained’ Congress leaders and workers four years ago on how to bag votes by cashing in on the sentiment of Punjabis.
Talking to newsmen here, after inaugurating party leader Dr Nishan Singh’s new hospital, Mrs Badal said Capt Amarinder and his ministers had done nothing for Punjab but for looting the state exchequer to fill their own pockets. She said the CM had once again brought in Kishore, on government expense to help him and the Congress party spin lies to cheat Punjab into voting for them “However, no matter what they do, people have woken up to this government’s corruption & brazen loot of public welfare funds”.
Speaking further, she said: “I urge Punjabis that when the Congress leaders come to ask for votes, people should first demand the jobs they were promised and farmers must ask for the complete loan waiver they were promised.
During the course of this address, Mrs Badal said various elderly women of her constituency had already announced that they won’t allow Congress election campaigners to enter their villages till they were granted the promised old age pension of Rs 2500 per month for the last four years. The Bathinda MP also scoffed at welfare schemes advertised by the BJP-led Union government which never see the light of the day.“An example of this is the much hyped ‘Ujjwala scheme’ to distribute LPG connections to ‘below poverty line’ families which was advertised in a big way, but instead, the prices of cooking gas cylinders was raised by Rs 225 in just three months. Even as crude oil has become cheaper, the state and Centre both have levied heavy taxes on petrol and diesel to mint money,” she said, adding that both govts must reduce the tax by Rs 5 to 7 each to give relief to consumers.
“They did not even spare the poor farmers, who pour their tears, blood and sweat into putting food onto our tables,” she said, adding that, “I salute the Punjabi farmers who have waged a long and peaceful battle with the arrogant leaders of the Centre. I am sure the government will have to bow in front of the genuine demands of our agitating farming community.”
While slamming the Capt led Punjab government for bringing up the rear in all national level surveys, Mrs Badal divulged her party’s vision, saying: “Once the Shiromani Akali Dal forms government in 2022, we will put the best efforts to make Punjab reclaim that glory of past and again be adjudged number one in all fields as it was during previous term of the SAD-led government.”
